Megan Boswell, a young mother from Blountville, was sentenced to life in prison after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her 15-month-old daughter, Evelyn Boswell.
The verdict came after Jurors deliberated for only a few hours before returning with a guilty verdict. According to prosecutors, Megan kept lying over and over to cover up what really happened to her daughter.

Evelyn Mae Boswell was last seen in December 2019, but her disappearance wasn’t reported until February 19, 2020, when Megan’s father, Tommy Boswell Sr., contacted authorities.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) quickly issued an Amber Alert, and the case soon gained national media coverage.
Megan, who was just 18 years old at the time, granted multiple TV interviews, and often changes her story about Evelyn’s whereabouts.
At first, she claimed Evelyn was with her father. Later, she insisted Evelyn’s grandmother had her, and didn't want to release her.
Finally, she said the child had been given to someone else and that the child would have a “better life” with that person. These inconsistent stories made investigators suspicious.

“She told story after story for two-and-a-half months, and maybe the worst part is that she just went on with her life as if Evelyn had never even existed. Evelyn did exist. Evelyn was a real person, and Megan Boswell should not be able to go on as if Evelyn did not exist,” said Assistant District Attorney Amber Massengill
Sadly, on March 7, 2020, after several weeks of searching, investigators made a heartbreaking discovery.
Evelyn’s body was found hidden inside a trash can on her grandfather’s property.
According to USA Today, she was stuffed into a trash bag and wrapped with aluminum foil. Medical examiners later confirmed that the toddler likely died of suffocation.
After an extensive investigation, police found overwhelming evidence which tied Megan directly to the crime.
Her fingerprints and palm prints were reportedly found both on the trash can and on the foil wrapped around Evelyn’s head.
Authorities believed that the evidence showed that Evelyn was deliberately killed.
Durinh the trial, Megan’s defense team tried to convince the jury that Evelyn’s death was accidental.
They claimed the child may have died of natural causes, and that Megan panicked. Defense attorney Gene G. Scott Jr. argued that Megan was just a scared teenager at the time.
“She’s 17 years old. She’s not sophisticated. She’s had a hard life. She’s scared she’s going to get in trouble,” Scott said.
The defense even suggested that Megan’s boyfriend may have hidden the body without her involvement, but the jurors did not agree.
In the end, Megan Boswell, now 23, received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 51 years.
The judge will later decide her punishment for other charges, including child abuse, neglect, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and making false police reports.
While there is no official motive for the crime, authorities say there are so many haunting questions about Evelyn’s final moments and that only Megan have the answers.
