In a terrifying ordeal, eight people were rushed to the hospital after a chemical substance was reportedly released inside a nightclub in Doncaster.
The incident occurred at around 5 am on Sunday morning, causing clubgoers to gasp for air and leading to a prompt evacuation.
South Yorkshire Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are seeking witnesses to determine the nature of the substance that was discharged at the venue.
Pop Works, the nightclub involved, posted on Facebook about the incident and expressed gratitude to their door staff and management for handling the situation well.
They also apologized to everyone who was present during the incident, stating their shock at such occurrences after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the evacuated club attendees recounted the harrowing experience, mentioning that everyone was coughing, sneezing, and struggling to breathe.
Security personnel urgently instructed everyone to leave the premises, and around 50 to 60 people were inside at the time of the incident.
South Yorkshire Police provided a statement confirming their ongoing investigation into the release of the chemical substance within the nightclub in Doncaster's city center.
Although eight people required hospital treatment, no lasting effects were reported. The police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
