Heartbreaking Loss: Father And Aston Villa Fan, Ian Price Mauled to Death by XL Bully Dogs in Quiet Village While Visiting His Elderly Mother
Tributes poured in for Ian Price, a devoted father of two, who tragically lost his life in a vicious attack by two XL Bully dogs in a serene village. Aston Villa fan Ian Price, aged 52, fell victim to the frenzied assault just steps away from his family residence.
He had been visiting his elderly mother, who resides opposite, when the dogs managed to escape from a neighboring property. Horrified witnesses in Stonnall, Staffordshire, recounted Ian's harrowing screams as the XL Bullies launched their savage assault on a fateful Thursday afternoon.
This heartrending incident left Ian's clothing torn as the dogs attacked him relentlessly. Despite being airlifted to the hospital, Ian succumbed to his injuries. His wife, Heather, aged 50, works as a teaching assistant at the village primary school, which was placed on lockdown during the attack.
A local source shared, "We assume the poor woman was locked inside the school with the kids and had no idea her husband was the victim."
Amanda Ward, a neighbor aged 55, revealed that her daughter, a student nurse, witnessed the gruesome attack. She recounted, "My daughter heard screaming and barking and came running out to see what was happening. One of the dogs, a white one, was covered in blood and wagging its tail. She said it was a horrific sight. The dogs ripped the clothes off the poor man, literally shredded his clothes. He was only in his boxers. Some other neighbors were using wheelie bins to keep the dogs away from him. He was in a terrible state."
Another resident described the horrifying scene, stating, "It was so awful. He was mauled to death, and it was just horrendous. The dogs got through the hedge behind the house and appeared in the elderly lady’s garden. Both dogs set on him.
Neighbors came out to help, but many stood on this side of the fence because they were too frightened to get involved. One brave man got a big stick and was hitting the dogs and trying to get them off, but the dogs just took no notice. They were in a frenzy. Eventually, he got one of the dogs off the man, and the other ran back through the hedge to its home."
Staffordshire Police identified the dogs as XL Bullies, although further tests are underway. Tragically, one of the dogs perished at the scene, and the other was euthanized by a veterinarian.
A 30-year-old man from the Lichfield area was apprehended on suspicion of manslaughter. Locals revealed that the suspect's girlfriend resides in Stonnall and often leaves the dogs unattended in her apartment.
Superintendent Tracy Meir expressed condolences and emphasized the ongoing support provided to Ian's grieving loved ones during this challenging period. Detectives are actively investigating the case, collecting statements, reviewing CCTV footage, and conducting house-to-house inquiries.
This incident occurs as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced forthcoming measures to ban XL Bully dogs by year-end due to their perceived threat to communities.
The government is actively addressing the issue, with experts tasked to determine the breed responsible for recent attacks, with a potential ban under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Recent incidents, including an attack in Birmingham involving an XL Bully Staffordshire Terrier mix, have intensified calls for breed-specific legislation.
St. Peter's CE Primary Academy, which faced a temporary lockdown during the incident, offered its support to students and staff, commending their actions and behavior in response to the tragedy.
