Sara Sharif's Lifeless Body Was Uncovered Under a Blanket, in a Bunk Bed: Court Hears As Her Father and Others Appear For Murder Charges
In a tragic and disturbing case, police discovered the lifeless body of 10-year-old Sara Sharif concealed in a bunk bed, shrouded beneath a blanket, fully clothed, with her hands resting in front of her.
This heart-wrenching incident unfolded at a residence in Woking, Surrey, on August 10, leading to grave accusations against her father, Urfan Sharif, stepmother Beinash Batool, and uncle Faisal Malik (all pictured above), who are all facing charges related to the young girl's murder.
The trio has also been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and made their appearance in Guildford Magistrates' Court.
Law enforcement officers responding to the distressing situation arrived at the property to find Sara beneath the blanket. When they gently uncovered her, she was lying fully dressed in the center of the bed, with her head raised and her hands placed on her chest.
The court was informed that the police were alerted to this harrowing circumstance by a call from Pakistan, lasting eight minutes and 34 seconds, at 2:47 am on August 10. Notably, the flight to Pakistan had been booked on August 8, just two days before, according to the prosecution.
Tragically, despite the efforts of ambulance crews called to the scene, Sara was pronounced dead shortly after 4 am.
Identification of the young girl was accomplished through DNA analysis involving her mother, Olga Sharif, residing in Somerset, and another relative. In a disturbing turn of events, the defendants departed for Pakistan along with five children the day before Sara's lifeless body was discovered.
They returned to the UK shortly thereafter and were arrested upon landing at Gatwick Airport. Subsequently, they faced charges of her murder during a court appearance at Guildford Magistrates Court.
During the proceedings, the defendants, residing on Hammond Road in Woking, provided their names, dates of birth, and addresses but refrained from entering any pleas to the charges.
Urfan Sharif, Faisal Malik, and Beinash Batool appeared in court, with Sharif wearing a grey prison-issued tracksuit, Malik in a red t-shirt and blue jeans, and Batool dressed in black. Two of the defendants required the services of an Urdu interpreter.
The prosecution outlined that the call from Pakistan had alerted the authorities to the dire situation.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Sara had endured "multiple and extensive injuries" over an extended period.
While her exact cause of death remained to be determined, she bore "healed fractures" and injuries that unmistakably indicated she had suffered "multiple events of violence" and had died due to third-party involvement.
The defendants' legal representatives indicated their denial of the charges, and no request for bail was made. No updates were provided regarding the condition of the five children who remained in Pakistan.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram remanded the defendants into custody pending their appearance at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.
In another news, a 20-year-old individual, Aondoaseer Agbadu, found himself facing charges in a Makurdi Magistrate's Court in Benue State, Nigeria. His alleged crime involved harvesting and selling the kidney of a 17-year-old boy named Terungwa Swati without his consent. See detailed story here
